Top Things to Watch

Earnings Season Heats Up as Netflix and Intel Take Center Stage

Q4 earnings season continues this week with Netflix reporting on Tuesday and Intel on Thursday. While headline earnings will matter, markets are expected to focus more on forward guidance, especially signals on demand trends, pricing power, and margin expectations.

Commentary around subscriber growth and content spending at Netflix, alongside Intel’s outlook on AI-driven demand, capital spending, and profitability, will be closely watched for clues on earnings momentum heading into 2026.

Key US Macro Releases on the Radar

Thursday’s two key economic releases could shift expectations for Federal Reserve policy. Core PCE, the inflation metric the Fed really cares about, hits alongside the final Q3 GDP revision.

If PCE stays sticky while growth softens, markets might face an uncomfortable reality: inflation that won’t cooperate and an economy that’s losing steam.

Friday’s flash PMI will tell us if that weakness is accelerating into Q1.

UK Inflation and Jobs Take Center Stage

UK labor and inflation data this week will test the Bank of England’s policy outlook. Tuesday’s employment report, followed by CPI on Wednesday, will clarify whether wage pressures are genuinely easing or if services inflation remains entrenched.

A combination of softening labor markets and persistent price growth would complicate the case for near-term rate cuts.

Eurozone Inflation Test to Open the Week

Monday’s eurozone inflation print sets the tone for the entire week. A hotter-than-expected reading risks derailing dovish ECB bets and could trigger a sharp repricing across European rates.

But if CPI continues its slide toward target, expect markets to double down on rate cut expectations and the euro to feel the pressure.

BOJ Decision Tests Yen Stability and Policy Outlook

The week wraps up with the Bank of Japan rate decision on Friday, with markets mainly focusing on signals whether recent inflation strength is proving durable enough to justify further policy normalization.

With the yen under pressure in recent sessions and renewed talk of possible FX intervention, guidance on wage growth, inflation forecasts, and tolerance for currency weakness will be critical.

While policy is widely expected to be left unchanged, any shift in tone toward a faster or slower normalization path could quickly trigger volatility in the Japanese yen and regional markets.
